National Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness Day 2018
A UK charity aims to highlight the issue of Child Sexual Exploitation through National Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness Day (Sunday 18 March, 2018).
NWG Network, a group made up of practitioners and specialists, are encouraging the public to “think, spot and speak out against abuse” by organising events nationwide and by taking part in online activities.
The campaign’s goal is to reach as wide an audience as possible in order to educate and to promote a culture of speaking out against Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE).
Collective responsibility is one of the overall themes of the awareness drive with three reasons given as to why this matters:
- Everyone has a role to play in raising awareness of Child Sexual Exploitation.
- Safeguarding children is everybody’s business.
- Any child can be sexually exploited no matter what culture, ethnicity, religion, whether a boy or a girl from any background.
Aileen Nicol, Head of Improving Protection and Permanence at CELCIS, commented:
“We support raising awareness of the issue of Child Sexual Exploitation and any campaign that encourages education on the subject and promotes prevention.
At CELCIS we work closely with a wide range of organisations, agencies and partners who all contribute to improving the protection of children and young people across Scotland.
Our Protecting Children team have used their expertise to curate a range of resources online that are up to date and provide vital information for anyone in Scotland in contact with children and young people.”
