Call for the First Minister of Scotland to recommit to the Scottish Human Rights Bill
Today (17 September), CELCIS joined over 100 organisations in co-signing a letter to the First Minister of Scotland calling on the Scottish Government to recommit to the Scottish Human Rights Bill.
The Scottish Government consulted on proposals for a bill in the summer of 2023 and organisations and campaigners had hoped and expected to see the bill be included in the 2024/25 Programme for Government published on 4 September. In the letter, co-ordinated by the Human Rights Consortium Scotland (HRCS), the organisations argue that human rights legislation in Scotland is essential to support the inclusion of international human rights treaties within Scots law and there is broad support for the bill.
Raising our concerns with the First Minister over the delay in bringing forward this bill to the Scottish Parliament, we are clear that there is an urgent need to combat human rights issues and see action taken in Scotland.
