Marking #RefugeeWeek2022
Three blog posts highlighting the importance of creativity, storytelling and relationship-building in helping young refugees to settle and thrive
As part of Refugee Week 2022, Paul Sullivan, Sector Engagement Lead at CELCIS, and Professor Ravi Kohli from the University of Bedfordshire, reflect on their work with the Drawing Together project, which focuses on the everyday lives of young refugees in Finland, Norway and Scotland, and discuss some of the key themes that have emerged so far.
Lorraine Ward works in the Asylum and Roma team of Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership and initiated the peer mentoring programme – New Young Peers Scotland – for unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people. Here she writes about why connections are key in helping young asylum seekers and refugees to build happy, fulfilling lives.
Christine and Hamid are young people who came to Scotland as refugees and are now settled in Glasgow. They are both Ambassadors for the Drawing Together project. During Refugee Week, they reflect on their involvement in the Drawing Together project and the experiences of refugees in Scotland, and their hopes for the future.
