Physical restraint in residential child care

 

The Scottish Physical Restraint Action Group’s looking back and looking forward update video for 2022.

SPRAG is a large network, formed through a call to action at a SIRCC conference in 2019, in response to the way that restraint was being understood and talked about in the mainstream press at that time.

The work of the group was strengthened by the aspirations of The Promise, published the following year. SPRAG’s purpose is to co-productively reduce, and where possible eliminate, physical restraint in residential child care.

In this video you will hear from members of the group updating, sharing and reflecting on our activity this past year, and speaking to some of the key messages and conversations that have underpinned our work.

SPRAG was set up in response to the 2019 lecture by Laura Steckley. It is a group of interested parties who use the safe space to discuss freely how they can reduce or eliminate physical restraint from child care.
