Scottish Care Leavers Convenant conference report
Topic: Throughcare and aftercare
Author: Kenny McGhee
The Walking the Walk Conference was held in October 2017 by the Scottish Care Leavers Covenant Alliance.
It was the first national conference following the launch of the Scottish Care Leavers Covenant in 2015 and was a significant milestone in the ambition to close the gap between policy and practice when working with young people transitioning from care in Scotland. The purpose of the Conference was to reflect on and evidence progress by Corporate Parents who have endorsed the Covenant. As such, keynote speakers were profiled specifically to highlight the importance of creating the enabling contexts to effect such change.
Key messages included:
- the importance of relationship-based practice
- the need for structured implementation of policy
- how research can inform practice
