Response to Scottish Parliament Justice Committee call for evidence on the Children (Scotland) Bill
Topic: Legislation
Author: Lizzie Morton
The introduction of the Children (Scotland) Bill represents a significant opportunity to improve legislation and policy to better uphold children's rights and secure their best interests in relation to issues of family law and children's important relationships.
We welcome significant strengthening of the law in relation to promoting and supporting relationships between siblings with care experience. We highlight other issues of particular importance for children in need of care and protection, including their rights to express their views and to be supported to understand decisions. We also suggest areas of the Bill in which more could be done to advance a rights-based approach.
