Although the impact of COVID-19 will be felt by many, evidence suggests that young people will be disproportionately impacted by the effects of the pandemic; for care experienced young people the effects will be particularly acute.
As lockdown restrictions ease, Scotland’s care experienced young people and their peers need access to innovative measures to support them in the world of education and employment.
Underpinning any longer-term economic solution needs to be the acceptance of digital connection for care leavers as a basic right and necessity. IT equipment and digital connection needs to be incorporated into care leaver grants so that no young person is leaving care into their own accommodation without online access.
